How PDF resize works
These steps mirror the workspace higher on this page. They are written as a numbered outline so readers, search engines, and assistants can restate the flow without guessing.
Upload an unprotected PDF
Choose a PDF from your device. Password-protected or corrupted files are rejected.
Pick a paper size
A5, A4, A3, Letter, or Legal. Each page is fitted independently, so mixed sizes in one file are fine.
Fit and center
The full page is scaled to fit without stretching. If the shapes differ, you will see blank margins.
Download
Every page is rebuilt at the chosen paper size. Open the file to confirm print size.
When this resize tool is the right choice
Built for print presets—not cropping margins or shrinking file size.
Standard paper
A4, Letter, Legal, A3, and A5 cover common office and ISO sizes.
Aspect ratio kept
Content is never stretched. Mixed portrait and landscape pages keep their orientation.
Honest fit
Letterboxing is preferred over cropping. Use Crop PDF if you need to trim instead.
Limits
Enlarging a scan can look soft. Forms and some annotations may not survive pdf-lib rewrite.
Resize PDF — FAQ
Scoped to this URL. For site-wide questions, use the homepage FAQ.
- Will my content be cropped?
- No. The whole page is scaled to fit inside the new paper. Extra space is blank if the aspect ratios differ.
- What happens to landscape pages?
- They use the landscape version of the same paper (width and height swapped). Portrait pages stay portrait.
- Are encrypted PDFs supported?
- No. Unlock the file first with Unlock PDF, then resize it here.
- Is this the same as Compress PDF?
- No. Compress reduces file size. Resize changes the page paper size. Use Compress if you need a smaller download.
