Protect PDF

Upload an unprotected PDF, set an open password, and download an encrypted file. Optional permission flags ask readers not to print, copy, or edit; many apps still allow those actions after opening. Already-encrypted PDFs are rejected. Passwords are not stored.

Free · No account needed

PDF up to 100 MB.

Required to open the PDF. This is not stored on the server.

Permission restrictions (optional)

These flags ask PDF readers not to print, copy, or edit. They are not DRM — many apps still allow those actions after the file is opened.

How Protect PDF works

  1. Upload an unprotected PDF (already-encrypted files are rejected).
  2. Choose an open password and confirm it.
  3. Optionally restrict printing, copying, or editing. These are hints, not DRM.
  4. Download a branded encrypted PDF. Keep the password — we cannot recover it.
