Edit and polish PDFs
Edit PDF metadata
Use this page to read and edit the classic PDF Info properties on an unprotected file. Page content is not redrawn. Encrypted files must be unlocked first. This does not update XMP or Dublin Core catalog metadata.

How PDF metadata editing works
These steps mirror the workspace higher on this page. They are written as a numbered outline so readers, search engines, and assistants can restate the flow without guessing.
Upload an unprotected PDF
Choose a PDF from your device. Password-protected or corrupted files are rejected.
Review the current fields
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer load from the PDF Info dictionary when they exist.
Edit and save
Change any field. Leave a field empty to clear it in Info. Keywords are comma-separated.
Download
Open the file’s properties in a reader to confirm Info values. Some apps still show older XMP data.
When this metadata tool is the right choice
Built for cleaner titles in libraries—not renaming the download file (use Rename PDF for that).
Standard Info fields
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer in one pass.
Layout stays put
Pages are not recompressed or redrawn. Only document properties change.
Clear empty fields
Blank inputs remove that Info value instead of leaving stale text.
Honest limits
XMP is not updated. Creation date is not an editable field here. Encrypted files must be unlocked first.
Edit PDF metadata — FAQ
Scoped to this URL. For site-wide questions, use the homepage FAQ.
- Does this change XMP metadata?
- No. Only the PDF Info dictionary is updated. Adobe and some DAM tools may still show title or author from XMP.
- Is this the same as Rename PDF?
- No. Rename changes the download filename only. This page changes properties inside the file.
- Will pages or images change?
- No. Content and layout stay as they are. The file is rewritten only to store the new Info fields.
- Are encrypted PDFs supported?
- No. Unlock the file first with Unlock PDF, then edit metadata here.
