Edit and polish PDFs
Edit PDF
Use this page when you need to mark up one PDF. New text is drawn in Helvetica, so it may not match the document font. A white cover hides an area visually. The words under that cover can still be copied, so it is not redaction. Scanned pages have no letters to click. Unlock a password-protected file first.

How Edit PDF works
These steps mirror the workspace higher on this page. They are written as a numbered outline so readers, search engines, and assistants can restate the flow without guessing.
Upload an unprotected PDF
Choose a PDF. Encrypted files are rejected. Use Unlock PDF first.
Add or replace
Add a text box, an image, or a white cover. Click a dashed line to replace text the page already contains.
Move the boxes
Drag a box on the page. Type the new words and choose black, red, or blue.
Download
Apply writes those objects onto the PDF. Other tools, such as compress or rotate, stay on their own pages.
When Edit PDF is the right choice
For marks on a page you already have. One-purpose tools stay separate.
Type on the page
Add a note, a date, or a short label without a desktop editor.
Replace a readable line
Click existing text and cover it with new words when the PDF stores real letters.
Place a picture
Add a PNG or JPEG and drag it into place.
Honest covers
A white cover hides an area on screen. It does not delete the text stored in the file.
Edit PDF — FAQ
Scoped to this URL. For site-wide questions, use the homepage FAQ.
- Can I change the words in a scan?
- No. A scan is a picture of the page, so there is no line to click. You can still add new text or an image. Use OCR PDF first if you need the scan to be searchable.
- Will the new text match the original font?
- No. New text is drawn in Helvetica. Size follows the box you placed.
- Does a white cover delete the text?
- No. It paints white over that area. Someone can still copy the original words from the file.
- Are encrypted PDFs supported?
- No. Unlock the file first with Unlock PDF.
